We did it! The KM Colour Run

PHOTO-2019-06-10-11-44-30 (1)

With manager, Jaye, and WALT volunteers Donal and Liam, doing the hard work, a fun day was nevertheless had by all – particularly resident doggy, Sam!

We’ve no idea what the times were, because, let’s face it, no-one was timing. The priority was to become as multicoloured as possible. The powder – distributed by hand or fire extinguisher – is organic and washes out easily enough, and tastes like sherbet, so it’s all good!

The total raised hasn’t been properly calculated but we reckon it’s around the £300 mark. Here’s a snapshot of Sam basking in the glory 🙂

The KM Charity Walk

KM Charity Walk

The KM Charity walk will take place in Maidstone Sunday 23rd June, with the start and conclusion at the beautiful grade 2 listed mansion, Mote House.

The main 10-mile route leads walkers through beautiful Kent countryside, with those wishing to take on a shorter distance opting for a five-mile route.

New for 2019 is a summer scarecrow competition with Kent schools, clubs and charities, who will be able to enter their scarecrow creation and have the chance of winning a prize.

There will be goody bags and medals for walkers on their return, as well as a barbecue.

By teaming up with the KM Charity you can help raise money for us here at the Net Community Hub. Sponsorship raised will be divided so that 70 per cent goes to your charity, The Net Community Hub and 30 per cent will go to our important literacy work with primary school children.

Brunch and a bit more …

IMG_2313

The Net and WALT are delighted to brighten up our Wednesday daytimes, introducing ‘Brunch and a bit more’!

As stated, there’ll be nibbles by way of a bacon roll, or perhaps waffles – something tasty each week, washed down with a cuppa. And all for a paltry £2!

That’s the brunch part anyway. The bit more will include a singalong (like today’s inaugural brunch), arts & crafts,  special visitors – it’s very much lead by the attendees, who’ve already begun making a list of what they’d enjoy.

So why not head down our way on Wednesdays between 10am-2pm? We look forward to seeing you.

The KM Colour Run

Event date: Sunday, June 9, 2019 staged at Betteshanger Country Park, Deal. One Start time (10.30am)

colour run
Are you dong anything on Sunday, June 9? If not, how about coming along to the KM Colour Run with us to raise funds?

Whether you run, jog, or walk, it’s a great way to raise some money and get active – all the while being showered with coloured powder!

The event is less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having fun. The KM Colour Run is a 5K, un-timed run in which participants are doused from head to toe in different colours at points throughout the run. The aim is start white and finish bright!

The KM Colour Run is a great fundraising and team-building event appropriate for participants of all ages (U16’s must be accompanied by an adult runner).

This is a collaborative event enabling you to run for your own charity. Your charity will receive 70% of sponsor monies, with the remaining 30% going to the KM Charity Team. This will cover event costs and fund the KM Charity Team’s child literacy and road safety work with schools.

Gift Aid collected on manual sponsor forms is retained by KM Charity Team and Gift Aid raised using our own Virgin Money Giving sponsorship page is split 70/30 between your chosen charity and KM Charity Team. Participants are required NOT to set-up their own online donation page not linked to the KM Charity Team page. All instructions on how to create your linked Virgin Money Giving page are sent out post-booking.

To book your spot, please click here and follow the instructions. Use booking code COLLAB19 for a £6 discount. See you there!

The Net Hub to benefit from Kent Community Foundation’s Core Support Fund

The Net Hub celebrates its support from KCF

The Net Community Hub has been chosen as the Medway recipient for the Kent Community Foundation’s new Core Support Fund.

The Core Support Fund will have a significant impact on the delivery of our services in Weedswood, one of the most deprived areas of Medway. It’s a three year programme to cover core costs, with the Net receiving £12,000 for the first year.

The Net manager, Jaye Nolan, says: “This is fantastic news from Kent Community Foundation, who’ve already been so supportive of us in the past two years. As a tiny charity that punches above its weight for our local community, the core funding is a real boost and will enable us to do so much more to combat social isolation in our vulnerable, elderly and isolated residents.”

The Net Hub Vice Chairman, Geoff Waters, comments: “It’s absolutely outstanding and a perfect testimony to Jaye’s hard work, initiative and commitment since joining as the NET Community Hub as our manager. Although only part time, she provides leadership well beyond expectations.”

Front-line organisations invest a great deal of resource into applying for funding, and sometimes find it challenging to secure funding for their core work and overheads like utilities, rent and service delivery staff. This grant comes at the perfect time for The Net, and will allow us to consolidate their services and make much needed improvements to the hub.

Natalie Smith, Director or Grants and Impact at Kent Community Foundation comments: “We received a huge number of applications for our Core Support Fund, with Medway being the most over-subscribed district. We are well placed to understand the importance of unrestricted and multi-year support to grassroots organisations and we look forward to seeing the impact of this funding on their communities over the three years.”

We’ve a Crowdfunder page for new doors and windows!

The Net Community Hub WALT Walderslade

With the release recently of the national Loneliness Strategy, we here at The Net Hub are keen to do our bit for the older people in our community and not only make our space available to them, but also make it as comfortable as possible.

We run a number of activities, from Chairobics to Time To Talk, a DIY Arts & Crafts Cafe, and an open cafe every week. We’d love to get the space open even more and to help this, we want the space to be welcoming to all.

Thanks to England’s temperate climate, most people can enjoy the space in relative comfort. However, during particularly cold or hot phases, the old wooden doors and windows can leave it either cold and draughty or humid and sweaty.

We’ve already got £1000 towards replacement costs, but we need another £3000 in order to install new pvc doors and windows with openings that will help to regulate the temperatures. This would also include a new back door, which currently cannot be opened from the outside and makes logistics a little tricky when we have a group meeting in the space.

Any help you can give us would be much appreciated.

Thank you!
